No Escape

Post by denis barden » Tue Oct 13, 2020 1:17 pm

Dropped a few monsters last week, I think due to the spikes being smaller for the Krakens
I purchased a few RUI size 4 jigs from Ebay-Replaced the spike mechanism and replaced the white/black eyes with red ones.
Went out this mornin-Only 2 boats out- to Queenscliff near where Nude Up last went and hooked 2 goodins one on each of these modified jigs
I only use white

Might go well under a float if it doesn't sink properly.

I have 14 size 4 rui's waiting patiently for my state sanctioned fishing excursion should it come on Sunday.

I think you're right about the barbs potentially being a little small for those 40CM+ models we're seeing out that way right now, bigger barbs for bigger squid. I agree with putting the head weight to balance it better, you might miss a few smaller ones but you'll for sure get the big ones!

It's interesting, I've never seen or used a Rui's rig in person but I wonder how it would handle snags. I assumed they all had those straight angle prongs which I'd imagine bend backwards easier than the curved?

Big squid aren't an issue with standard prongs, if you work the jig as designed, you wont have an issue.

I reckon it's about how they grab it, yesterday I swear half the squid that went for my jig grabbed it from the side, dropped it then grabbed it right. They're quick learners! Can't go wrong with white or a natural blue when it's clean and sunny.
