Re: Another great squidding session.
Ill see if I can find the older one and do a comparison.Andrews wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 9:13 pmAwesome eating sized squid and photos!
Yeah they've been smaller down this way, they've all just disappeared from the St Leonards Pier, gone deeper.
I never knew the newer Shimano Sephia 14T jigs were Yamashita made, you can tell looking at the cloth. Only differences look to be the weight design, eye colour and featherings. Anyone have photos of the older jig, genuinely interested in comparing the two?
The only thing that doesn't win me over with the sephia jigs is the limited colour range, plenty of nice naturals, but limited with the foil colours.
I think you've summed up the flash pretty well, I think those clear, full sun, shallow water sessions is where it would shine. Little flashes like we see from darting baitfish and that glistening from scales as it falls. The murkier, lower light and deeper the less effective due to light penetration. I wonder why they only went two with full clear bodies and like 5+ with cloth, if you're selling the flash the cloth would only hinder the potential.
I'd love a full clear, silver paint flash boost, maybe a little bit of blue or multiple dark black thin stripe ontop running either side of the back.
This was a prototype they released, notice the red feathers and full clear body. I assumed it was Japan exclusive, but they don't have that colour either.

I'd genuinely surprised Yamashita partnered with Shimano, but can understand it. Daiwa has the greater market share with EGI rods, but jigs could be fair game and Shimano pushes more Australia than other companies. The Shimano 'local' colours like KGW reflect that.
The shape of the nose has also changed.
That clear body might have just been for promo only to show how the flash works..

Re: Another great squidding session.
Looking at the emeraldas jigs and they're a bit eh.
Yeah, I've seen a few swap to that elongated loop vs the straight round.
Shape yeah, I'm sure each brand has slight difference in the same and that new ones Yamashita.
I'm thinking that two, supposed to say promotional rather than porotype haha. I remember watching the Shimano demo clip and with the cloth you really couldn't see the flash even above water.

Emeraldas have some really nice jigs, but they are JDM only!!Andrews wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 12:42 pmLooking at the emeraldas jigs and they're a bit eh.

not just the loop, the actual nose shape is different now.
with the cloth over the body, i suppose they will entice the hovering squid to actually grab, instead of hover and shy away.. the flash is still noticeable, although a lot more toned down..
