Squid snap - which one do you use?

Post by Catchsomething » Sun Jan 02, 2022 2:28 am

Hey guys, read around the web everyone has different opinions.
Which one do you use?

The majority on an old post recommended Decoy Round Snap 13 Pack 00 which looks pretty small, when I went to Anaconda the guy told me to use Decoy Egg Snap 7 Pack size 3, not sure if it is too big.

I try to use smallest one possible that I can get away with. It should also have breaking test limit, and try to match with your line.
E.g. if using 10lb for squid then get at least the one with 10lb breaking test or more. I think decoy 00 is 18lb test, so it should be enough.
If it's too small for you to use (can be hard when it's too small), just use bigger. Few sizes up won't matter much.

Yeah, see I've never been a fan those thin wire snap styles, only because I find them super tedious for my hands, I want something easy.

I reckon any good quality snap will work, my preference has always been the Mustad Fastach in size 3, only because it's a twist snap and swapping jigs takes the whole of 2 seconds. They're overkill, but man are they convenient.

I find it better to just use a loop knot on the jig like I do for my lures etc. That way the action of the jig is as natural as it can be. Don't bother with snaps or swivels etc.

hey guys, I have been using the Decoy Round Snap 13 Pack 00 the last 2 days, small yes but I found them easy to use.
Only got 1 squid each day but others got none so I would say they don`t affect the catch rate....

It's simple to re tie, just cut it off and tie a new one on.
