Thanks Paul for confirming that.
I can't believe there's squid talk nights and that people would go
How else do you become an authority on all things fishing than regurgitating info from a talk night. Probably learn a bit more casting jigs and silver whiting off piers whilst sinking longnecks
not as fun though.
I actually don't mind going to these sorts of things, plenty of info to take away if you are really interested.

Im more than happy to ask people for help if I think its going to be beneficial to me, wether it be talks like this, memberships to clubs or websites or just going out with someone and learning the ropes.
There's always something new to learn!!

Now they're some expensive jigs.
I can appreciate the collector editions / limited editions, but I couldn't see myself paying an arm and leg for a single jig. I do have a few of the limited Chinese New Year Ones, not all shown in the pic.

Would have been good hearing from Paul, he seems to definitely has years of experience within the EGI space and within the AUS /JDM fishing markets.
Good to just socialise sometimes.

He also works very closely with fisheries and has years worth of tagging and research info and knowledge about our local squid, getting info from him is priceless to me. I went specifically to have a chat to him in person and ask a few questions. I'll put those to test soon and see if it helps me do any better.
He is also a gun bream angler and fished many many tournaments back in the day. So a few bream chats were also had.
I got a few tips on snapper as well.

Is it still believed that squid only live for 12 months? I just can't see how one squid would weigh 3kg and others 500 grams. Back in the old days I used to see people with 3 maybe 4kg squid caught from the little landing at Portsea pier, they can't be 12 months old

Maybe it's time you went and had a listen to a few people with a bit more knowledge about these things. Instead of bagging it to no end without prior knowledge.
Everything you have enquired about was covered in detail. And plenty more if you were interested.

And for the Authority that have issues with people doing these sorts of things, let me just say it was a pleasure going to an event sponsored by themselves in part. :rf: :rf:
The event was held as part of a grants initiative given to fishing clubs from the vfa and the likes which use the money received in fishing fees to make these sorts of things happen.

Around a year yes. Take roughly 6 months to reach maturity at around 20cm hood and then quite literally root like rabbits with females storing sperm from multiple males like a giant swinger party before laying eggs when it suits. Males are larger growing to around 55cm hoods and females around 40cm.

😂 I have no issues with people learning just don’t tell me you slept with a supermodel when you bought a gps mark to the local whorehouse. Come to think of it if your so desperate to justify your purchasing of marks I can always set up a go fund me page on top of that I will also contribute to arm extension surgery so you can hold those fish you previously purchased out a little bit closer to the camera. May also help you pull the Sun out of your arse.
