Re: Landbased Squid
if your goin to rye area u may as well go portsea.
fish off the left hand side of the main straight b4 the right turn.
another good spot is on the end of the pier.
casting kinda towards beach . there is a weed patch they school around sumtimes. familiar old locals often go to those spots.

Good info here guys, thanks. Picked up a couple today at Portsea on a white jig. Tried orange and also olive with red foil though they they weren't so interested in those.

Re: Landbased Squid
Never tried squiding before, how do you work the jigs land based? Same as soft plastics?
Re: Landbased Squid
You can bounce them around like soft plastics though I usually cast out, wait for it to sink then give it a light to medium rip or 2, let it sink again and repeat. Or, just wind in slowly and let the jig swim along. I've seen people rip the **** out of the rod though it hasn't worked for me. Most of my catches have been with slow trawling and a little jigging. Sometimes I hook up when I'm not paying attention, just having a smoke or a chat and suddenly the rod is bending.
Good luck
