Fresh squid or mussel, 45 degrees off the back left hand corner for whiting.

Oh if you drop a Paternoster in close to the pylons you'll get LJ's toadies and wrasse as well. Not sure if you have kids with you but the LJ can be great fun.

Fish close in, don't cast for bloody miles. My pb flathead, and pb whiting until earlier this year both came from within 15mtrs of that pier, just where Dougie suggested to you. For big calamari, you fish the corner to the extreme right, on the start of the ebb tide..
Just be prepared for deliverence fish, pj's, leatherjackets and wrasse...buggers the lot of them...
Bait wise, squid is ever dependable and pillie fillet works well, but the pj's love it as well..

They can be a complete menace down there lol...sometimes take the daughters down for a go when the pinkies are on, it's ok for 35 or 40 mins, but you just get sick of rebaiting 'cos it's a fish a cast..

If my plans to head to Western Port fall through, I might venture down for a squid
