Lakes Entrance landbased tips

Post by tbcha1 » Thu Jun 18, 2020 10:19 am

Hi all,
been trolling through the searches for some tips on fishing lakes entrance landbased during winter. Going up there during the school holidays and hoping to catch anything after being in lockdown for over 4 months! There was some mention to fish the entrance at the rocks i assume in my attachment its the red circle at the bottom is the best spot to hit? the long yellow line is it worth fishing around these areas at this time? was thinking about flicking some sp's along the way. High tides around 2pm on the 27th of june so was thinking maybe try get there around midday and stay til 4ish at the mouth.

any other spots or how lakes has been fishing recently would be appreciated!
thanks

JS and Retyred both live down there and will be more help with the estuary than me.

The surf beach is full of salmon and tailor, red bluff being the spot that has produced the most for me.

wont be bringing the surf rods this time as i wont have room. Plans have changed now to be just a overnighter so bit of a hit and run only hah

might just hit the bullock island jetty for crabs and just fish there for a bit instead now that our time there is very limited

Next to the rock wall at the entrance is a good spot for salmon. There is a possibility of a bream in the front lake as we are getting lots of dirty water down the rivers at the moment. Still KGW in the lake but be challenging without a boat. Mostly they are around kalimna and Fraser island.
I had a good session there today. Haven't tried the salmon for a while. Too many other options.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Will be going there that weekend too, Friday arvo to Monday lunch. Are the flatties biting? Will be land based and using plastics and hard bodies. The Mrs wants to get some crabs.

where you thinking of flicking for flatties? its probably a bit too cold and wont get too many atm but Bream should be around.
We stayed at a house at 1 Clara St Lakes Entrance a decade ago in Decemeber and did very well at the beach across the road from it 3 days straight, #2 Clara st.
But been back once and got donuts couple years back haha. Told a few people about it as well but they didnt catch anything as well. But got a few decent sized bream and flatties each morning. Arvo was crap though

Might try it again if im driving up else it just be whatevers walking distance from where we are staying. Hopefully there be crabs around too! main reason why we are going up

No flatties around now due to cold Lake water is around 12deg. Crabs will be around still. Entrance channel at Bullock island, again better with a boat u near the Barrier.

Anywhere close to the entrance you can get a crab net in is worth a go. Most crabbing is done off the Bullock island jetty because of the easy access. The crabs are around in varying amounts anywhere from the entrance to Kalimna and the barrier landing. They are not common in the front lake as the bottom is too silty. They like the course clean sand. They are mostly ocean going crabs that are along the beach areas. In the lake the only clean sand is where the current runs fast and washes away the silt.
If you walk or get a water taxi to the entrance, to flick for salmon, then taking a crab net would be a good idea if it is calm enough. The sand goes right up to the concrete entrance wall on the beach sides. The channel would be difficult as the rocks extend a bit to far for you to throw a crab net.

In the Lake around town at this time of the year, you may get, Salmon, Silver trevally, and possible some bream. Under the HWY bridge is a common spot to fish as well.
