Out into the Deep again

Post by re-tyred » Sat Jul 11, 2020 6:33 pm

Well the weather was good again so we loaded u the gear and headed out past the rigs for a deep water bash. 2hrs at 25knts and we were out into the canyons. Rigged up a swordy rig and two bottom bash rigs. Send them down and made a coffee. Nothing much so u they came, a good 20 mnute crank out of 500mtrs. Moved a bit and sent them down again. One of the guys had a bite on a bottom rig and after a long wind up he landed a 60cm ling.
We moved again and I got on a rod, soon had a decent bite, seemed to be on. It's hard to tell in 600mtrs. So wind it up, yes quite a bit of weight, an occasional kick. 20min and getting a sweat up and up pops an awesome 110cm Ling. Fished around for a cpl more hours but no swordy. Oh well better than sitting at home.

4kg of skinned and boned out fillets. Probably around 8kg fish. So sunday lunch is organised.
Darn hard thing to fillet. It was slipping and sliding all over the place and to big for my filleting table

Ling is a mild, firm very white flesh. Good for people that don't like fishy fish. We had some for lunch.

I was tempted to nail it's head down to fillet it. Sharp knife and patience got it done.
