Lake Tyers Bream

Post by Whiskers » Sat Jul 18, 2020 8:30 pm

With the rain we've had in the past week from the East Coast Low, the Snowy and Brodribb Rivers are running hard and high. The Estuary at Marlo is high and is the colour of strong coffee with a charcoal topping. Lots of this years earlier bush fire debris is finally being washed into the system.

With that in mind I took a bit of a trip down to one of the arms in Lake Tyers. The level has only risen about a foot and the water is still clean.

The input of the fresh has livened up the bream.

No whoppers, but this afternoon produced a steady stream of fish, most around the 30 to 35cm mark.

No fancy technique needed, just a humble prawn on a tiny sinker, fished up against the snags. Needless to say the snags claimed a few fish but what a way to spend a sunny winters day afternoon.

nice work! I fished Marlo before the lockdown and despite the water colouration ran into some nice fish, all schooled up.

Snags and big bream are so much fun

There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.
