Blue bait has worked for me there, with a cast of 20m ok from the beach or just 5-10m off the jetty. Put on a small live mullet to increase your chances - you can also get mulloway with this technique. The only problem can be the very large eels that are in the system - you'll probably catch 3 of those to every other fish with these kinds of baits in the Snowy.
