Paynesville Jetties

Post by Pirkz » Tue Jan 05, 2021 10:50 am

Long time lurker but noticed that its been a bit quiet on the Gippsland thread so thought Id sign up, sign in and post. Paynesville based so fished the jetties on New Years day using float fished live shrimp and came up trumps with these beauties amongst others. All returned to fight another day. Not the best pic of the fish but it was blowing 25kts ,the jetty was shaking and the camera was perched precariously on top of the bait bucket!
Noticed a few large KGW carcasses around the Fort King cleaning station so presume Lakes is also firing at the moment.

Excellent catch. I am away in Tassie so haven't been fishing around lakes for a month. Will be back at it next week
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Nice catch, last time I was there a year and a half or so all I could get was 30 cm Tailor, heaps of the things around there. Still good fun on light gear though.

Yep was blowing hard 2 foot swell crashing into the jetties all arvo and not even a pelican in sight! So plenty of underwater noise and confusion Im sure hence the positive bites and hook ups. PB bream thats for sure around 42 ish though quite heavy set (the fish clutched to my chest). Lost 3 other decent fish one of which straightened the rather small size 12 hook I was using at the time. Just to note the previous day I had a small mixed bag of bream trevally salmon and a mullet. I think live shrimp is the difference at the moment. Shall Tinny up and venture up the lakes area over the next few days and see how the local fish like Paynesville shrimps! Also fish out of Mcloughlin's Beach a bit in the estuary there with a mate . Flathead going well on pilchard at the moment.

Some nice fish there mate :tu: Bream fishing is some of my favourite especially when you get a 1kg fish on with light gear they fight as good as any fish

Any reports of good whiting areas down that way
I usually fish port welshpool offshore but this weekend going to take kids down lakes way and try to get them onto some energetic whiting bites

Good job Perkz,

We’ve been quiet due to work and weather...hoping to have a crack on Monday when I’ve got one day off in a row 😂
