Re: Winter fishin in northern Victoria
I've spent the past few weekends up near kyneton, at the lauriston and upper coliban resevoirs.
Lauriston hard to fish 'cos of the closure of much of the area due to the pine plantations dropping branches on people! But if you find a good spot there are plenty of reddies, nothing more than 300 - 400g though. Not much luck at all at the Coliban..
I'm looking for the browns released by fisheries over the last few years, using scrubworms on a running sinker. Might try the setup suggested by jlchilds!

Re: Winter fishin in northern Victoria
I knew they were there!
Started fishing around a bit of structure (submerged trees and grass), had a few snags but worth it. This girl around 35cm, maybe 800g? Kinda skinny fish but I was rapt nonetheless; even jumped out of the water for me! I let her go and what a pleasure to see a fish shoot off, with a wild flick of the tail.. Can't wait to get up there again this weekend..

The closed season for salmonids in 2012 is from midnight on Monday 11 June, to midnight on Friday 31 August.

You can still fish for them in lakes. He let it go so it doesn't matter unless he was in a river that is totally closed and judging from the pic it doesn't look like it to me.
thanks
Jim

You might see me there tomorrow too, for a scope.

Straight down to the water from the carpark Brett, on the opposite side to the dam and picnic grounds. You can walk around the bank and still keep away from the pines.
Not sure if this is the right forum, but very disappointed to see most of the area fenced off due to what I can only see as poor management of the plantations? The pines are so big they're falling over, surely should have been harvested years ago. You can't even walk across the dam anymore.
There's a magic spot about 2k along the Lauriston/Springhill road that I used to fish with my old man years ago, great resource for fishos but now sadly gated and fenced off with "no entry" signs everywhere..
