King Parrot Creek donuts

Post by Boydwilliam » Sun Nov 10, 2019 9:12 am

Hi all,
Been a while since I posted.
I headed across to the King Parrot last Friday and braved the poor weather forecast.
I fished between Flowerdale and Hazeldene from 7am until 10am wading using celtas and a few soft plastics.
I had a good hit on the celta but the fish jumped and spat the hook. It looked like a rainbow around 20 cms. That was the only fish I saw for the morning.
It was very difficult to fish because almost every second cast I was hooking into a stick or a bunch of leaves. There was a bit of rain around in the days leading up and the water was quite dirty. Maybe I should have tried drifting worms instead.
I did see a few small crays which was good.
I haven’t fished the King Parrot much even though I don’t live to far away.
I’ll head out again in the next week or so and see if I can do any better.
Cheers

I used to do ok drifting a worm over the cliff at the back of the hotel.Used to have access to private property and do really well on the river blackfish maybe 100 meters upstream from there too.
Macca perch in some secluded sections hard to find now.

Thanks for the report. Been raining and a lot, makes the water a bit dirty and hard to fish. Was it running fast too?
Maybe try a floating shallow dive hardbody, dont get snagged as much.

I caught a Macca last time I was there on worms. Safely released obviously but it’s good to see them in there.
It wasn’t running really fast but I did have to get out and bash my way along the bank because it got a bit deep in a few spots.
I’ll probably head back this coming week and have another go.
Cheers

The better fishing in the King Parrot is further downstream between Strath Creek and Kerrisdale but it is very overgrown now and you need to do plenty of bush bashing.

There’s a guy on YouTube who does well with hardbody lures and it’s a very popular with fly fishers on the upper reaches, but worms have done the job more often than not on those flood plain middle reaches through

Yup, I fly fished there few times. Caught few trout. But yeh, a lot of bush whacking. Sometimes its not the easiest place to fish.

Looks like a really tricky creek to cast a fly into...narrow,tree lined with some wicked overhanging ledges.A couple of trout Is a good reward for effort :tu:
