Team CBFt pushes the limits and goes toe to toe with Aussie Brawlers

Post by rb85 » Sun Dec 27, 2020 1:09 pm

After a somewhat great year in Country Vic and surviving the Christmas festivities it was time for Team CBFt to enjoy some Kayak fishing.

Doing Sweet F All apart from sinking a few Cans I was organised enough to get up at ridiculous AM and begin my trek. After a quick breakfast and coffee I was on the road without forgetting anything I considered a drive thru coffee but decided against it in case it bought on unwanted bowl movements when out on my kayak.

The drive through pitch black apart from a slight industrial glow winding through rural townships I dodged a Wombat grazing on the roads edge before puling up at Blue Rock to glorious darkness. Without a breath of wind I was eager to get on the water and get up river for the surface bite as I hurried to unload the Hobie get my tackle organised and go I didn't even forget my polaroids.

It was a peaceful trip across the lake with no boat noise and a very light wind I reached the area I wanted to fish just as the first hint of light was showing. First rod was a custom spin jig I built rigged with a Jackal Pompadour. After a few casts I was awaken with an all mighty boof and after a short hard tussle I landed my first bass of around 33cm.

The rest of the morning was busy catching and releasing many bas feeling my line rubbing in amongst the heavy timber on the Pompadour and a Tiemco Tiny Cicada. The biggest went 35cm unfortunately I lost one which appeared to be bigger being beaten by the timber.

Once the sun was up I switched to suspended hardbodies and a Jackal TN50 which both caught a few more.
The wind was starting to pick up so I decided to call it a day.

Nice.
Last time I was there was tough as.
How did you work the TB50? lift wind mid water or bouncing on the bottom? I always struggle to use lures like TN50 without getting snagged (and lost ofc), in such snaggy water

I let it sink slow roll occasionally hop and let it sink then repeat. Don’t worry I get snagged i just keep working until I can find a pattern. Don’t worry Seb everyone has tough days.

Am going to invest in a tackle back lure retriever hopefully stops me donating so much to the snags

Thanks Tim after the beers consumed over the festive season it’s a miracle I remember my name.
