Cod fishing and kayak spill

Post by mazman » Mon Jan 18, 2021 4:46 pm

Hey guys,

Another clip from a cod session. Aside from coming out it was a great trip with multiple fish coming in and some slightly better quality.

Few good lessons in here as well, the basics of it are.
Don't use vertical rod holders where there's overhanging trees
Current can flip your kayak (or boat) quite quickly
Walk it up anything you're unsure about
Bailing off the kayak can keep it upright and save losing anything from a capsize

Cheers Alex

Yup, happened to me once with my old hand paddle yak. Can be tricky around structures like trees with overhanging branches.
That's one of the main reason I bought native watercraft propel. The propel with instant reverse really helps to control the drift, away from structures, etc. while hands still free to grab rods etc etc.

In fast current like this the native drive isn't going to help unfortunately, in slower water the pedal drives are great for controlling drifts etc. but there just isn't the time to react accordingly here
