Gday guys and gals,

Been a while since I posted on here, still lurk a bit but the bickering and sooking is Bit like a girls boarding school,and does my head in, so I’ve stayed quiet for a while

Still doing plenty of fishing off ocean grove and Barwon heads,

But bought a new boat and heading to port fairy for the labour day weekend,

Just wondering what crossing the bar at the river mouth is like??

Would say I’m very confident and can sit back and watch a few other boats or the sets and figure it out between a navionics and the sounder, just wondering if there’s anything untoward right there,

Can’t remember how to get this on the front page so hopefully somebody sees it, ohh well

its fine mate, i personally havent been through it skippering.
but been a few times as decky and its an easy one to do.
been in a 4.8 polycraft few times through it, ande seen smaller boats go through as well
but wait for someone with a bit more local knowledge to give you some more info.

Hey mate,
No real danger to my knowledge obviously stick to channel markers and I choose to stay to port for a fair distance before making my turn west. I go out a couple times a year for Tuna in my 4.58 cuddy with no problem in 2m seas and 15knot winds. I get most of my catches on the 45m contour line around 37 30.282 S 142 13.762E east to west and off lady julia percy.

Can people actually get under the bridge properly?
And what do you recon about small boats attempting Barwon crossing. Like 4m boats

Yeah brother, bridge is fine in anything under 2.4m tall on most tides,

I always take the rods down flat, but that’s just me

Went thru on a full in my Caribbean crestcutter with the Bimini up on a full tide 2 weeks ago

The bar at Barwon heads can be a real ***** but anything under 1.2 swell and under 15 knots it’s usually ok,

Sit back at the 3rd last channel marker in gear and watch the sets,

Time the gap and motor on, even on the lowest low at the last red marker lined up with the cardinal marker on the shore you can motor straight out on that line and fast, once you clear the bluff you in the clear,

Off to the left is a boiler(shipwreck) do pays to watch,

Like I said, offers always there. For anyone that wants to follow me out or me to show them the ropes
