Accessible fishing spots near Skenes creek

Post by fisherlady » Tue Sep 06, 2022 3:18 pm

Hi all,

Heading down to Skenes Creek soon and wondering if you can let me know the most accessible fishing spots nearby (up to 20-30 min drive but hopefully closer). We are heading down with a family member who is unsteady on their feet, so would be great to see what might be more accessible and some chance of catching fish!

Thanks in advance

Lorne pier is good, good access and facilities.
Can fish the beach too.

Hi Fisherlady,

The rocks at Petticoat creek offer good fishing for snapper, whiting, mullet, wrasse and trevally. Best to fish there in low swell or an offshore wind. You mentioned that one of the members of your party is unsteady on their feet which might make fishing the beach next to the rocks a better proposition.
I would suggest fishing with a light rod with a float for best success on mullet, wrasse and trevally. If you can get an iso rod you will do really well.
Fishing on the bottom will give you a good chance of snapper and whiting but there are snags so be prepared to lose a few rigs.

Apollo bay harbour also offers great fishing at times and is a much safer spot for those unsteady on their feet. Was there during the week and while I didn’t make the time to fish, I saw wrasse, trevally, zebra fish and salmon in the harbour. Berley will assist in bringing the fish to you and getting them hungry.

Best of luck, Shaz
When I got time,
I wet a line cos Im a junkie,
been fishin since a kid,
I like it cos it numbs me..
