Post by Tp_18 » Sun Jan 19, 2014 9:44 am

Hey guys and girls

Just wanting to know if anyone has fished at Lorne pier lately and can anyone give me any tips about fishing there.

Any advice will be great.

Thanks
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

Honestly, my tip is NOT to fish there!!!

There are way better spots within 10km of lorne which have 10x less ppl and you catch 10x more! The last 2-3 trips to the pier which is a tally of over 50hrs, has produced 4-5 kgw and about the same number of squid and the odd sambo and couta. It doesnt fish like it used to and from local reports its been a slow start to the season, fish and squid wise. There have also been a cpl of seals loitering around the pier, which dont help .

You have jump rock as you enter lorne, moggs creek(fish the beach), erskine river in lorne, wye river just past lorne and artillery rocks aswell. You need to check conditions before fishing the rock locations obviously, but they are definetly worth a look if you havent been before!!
When I got time,
I wet a line cos Im a junkie,
been fishin since a kid,
I like it cos it numbs me..

are you fishing for trout or estuary species? If you use the search function for the spots I mentioned you will find plenty of info. ;)

Near the caravan park
Angling is the name given to fishing by people that can't fish

I fished lorn peir from last night till this morning and caught 7 makeral 3 travally and 1 pinkie. We also lost 2 pinkies and 1 big travally. I put a makeral as live bait and had something smash it. I also saw 5 very decent squid being pulled out. Lorne pier on its day is awesome and better than most rock platforms in that area.

I don't fish it anymore simply because of it's crappy design.

Have seen some big sharks caught there, walked to the shore though.

If you have to fish it, I would recommend starting late at night when everyone had gone & get on the end.

cheers Amanda

Amanda that is so true, why the hell did they make it into a y shape. All that does is make people cross lines especially if they follow y shape. I would fish there on a south to east wind on a weekday only or else you will be wasting your time
