Clifton Springs Sat morning

Post by Sebb » Sat Mar 21, 2020 9:54 pm

Time fished : 6am-11am
Weather : 19 degrees cloudy
Wind : WSW 10-15kmh
Moon : waning crescent 7%
Tide : low 7am, peak high 12:30pm
Barometer : 1022 steady
Gear :
1-3 kg rod, 2000 reel, 10lb braid, 10lb fluorocarbon leader, paternoster #2 baitholder, pipi and fresh squid tentacle.
2-4 kg rod, 2500 reel, 10lb braid, 10lb fluorocarbon leader, Yamashita 2.5 squid jig white, berkley white 1.8 and egiexile 2.5 red.

Left home 4am. Stopped by McDonald and arrived 5:30am at the carpark. There were only about 2-3 cars.
By 6am me and two mates were on the water on the yak. Was still dark and I had my bright LED strip lights on. Saw few small garfish. I kept moving to find a good ground til I saw two little squid next to my yak attracted by the light. Hesitated to take the 2.5 jig, I changed to white 1.8 and caught two within minutes.

By around 7:30am I already covered a bit of ground, pretty much flat 2.5m water weed bed. Puzzled by one of my mate that's been on the same spot since we launched (straight out), he screamed come here! Help! *Waving*
I went to him to find out that he had hooked a big squid and needed a net (he said he forgot his net, but I never seen him carrying one and always say I forgot the net). On top of that he said he already caught 5 and that's the 6th! No wonder be didn't move much.

7:30am-9:00am was good, squid and squid and squid amongst us three. I cut some of the tentacles and used as bait, caught 2 undersized pinkies, 1 undersized salmon and a 33cm king george whiting.

By 10am, was boats everywhere I looked. Back at the carpark 11am to see full of cars and people driving around to look for parking spot. Other kayakers that went out late said that either caught 1-2 or nothing. Paid to start early.

Three of us caught in total :

18 squid (6 big squid, 8 medium, 4 small) biggest was 27cm hood.
2 undersized pinkies
1 undersized salmon
1 king george whiting 33cm

Dropped a few squid. Dropped few fish on the bait.

Overall, another successful trip. Most important Mrs is happy.

How's your Saturday?

Seb, you are raising the bar and making us all look bad :(

Fantastic day out with an awesome haul, well done :tu:

On your mate saying he always forgets his net, well he is still a mate , , , , just worry if he keeps saying "I forgot my wallet"

Cheers, Bugnetti

I dont mind helping him netting his catch (like everytime we go fishing), but I'm more sus wheteher he actually got a net or not. LoL. I believe one day he'll bring it and say something like "i told you i got a net" ahaha. He's a good fishing buddy and he always got his wallet to chip in for the petrol, bait, etc.

And yes, was a good morning with good catches. Mrs was a bit upset that we came back home late, but the frown turned after she saw the squid in the esky. Means we're having a fresh calamari feed.
