Land-based Calamari - 2/06/2023
Hey everyone,
Sharing a quick session chasing the calamari at again.
I'll share a few more reports over the next fortnight, one with a successful calamari hunt and another with an unexpected bag of Australian Salmon.
Keen to chase more calamari this weekend.
Friday 2 June 2023
Partly cloudy evening, fished 5.00 - 6.00pm
Light run out tide, surface weed clearing
Max depth 1.5 - 1.0m
Red foiled jig, fast action - squid chased.
Three in an hour.
This session was a beauty as I was able to snag my PB so far for the year, measuring a 43cm hood.

Re: Clifton Springs Calamari - 2/06/2023
Unreal, I went yesterday arvo @ Mordi pier on rising tide - clear water, perfect conditions... but nothing, others struggled as well.
Will try again but a bit later in the day.
Can't wait to yak again, Mordi pier fishing is somewhat limiting and gets busy too - not just with fishos.

I've found that last light has been most successful for me recently. May be worthwhile checking out those less popular secret spots too!
I didn't get any squid last due to to salmon being around, ended up catching 7 30+ models on plastics, was great fun on the light gear.

Nice work. It always amazes me how well squid pull once they get over 40, completely different to the smaller models.

They really do don't they!
Fishing so shallow you can definitely feel when you hit the deeper sandy patches as they start pulling harder than over the weed.
Had a 40cm+ model a few days ago on both of those small feeler tentacles at the front and man did it pull! haha

Nice man.
My first over 40 was also a 43 hahaha, and about the same time of the year 5 or so years ago.
Gotta love those monster lunges...
Ill never forget my first monster which I dropped from being new to the game, being caught off guard at how strong they pull and how heavy they feel in the water when they take off...

How's the water clarity atm Andrews?
Would you say couple days of West wind is enough to clear up the water?
Avoid N and E wind?

Water would be dirty, anytime you've got the water churning against the shore it muds up pretty quickly.
Should improve with light winds and run in tides.
