St Leonard's Report 21/10/2019
Hey everyone,
Reporting on Monday, 21/10/2019, and the week prior.
Squid throughout the week have caught consistently from the pier along with some catches of snapper, whiting and salmon.
Total of 12 squid caught throughout last week with the majority being on a setting sun with a rising tide.
Hit the pier today at around 9:00AM, overcast day with light WNW winds on a dropping tide.
Great water clarity and activity with small baitfish and larger predatory fish along the pier.
Landed two small squids before 10, while others were doing the same. This quieted off by 11.
Returned at 3:30PM, with light WNW winds turning on the rising tide.
High water clarity continued and caught another 3 smaller sized squid.
Will aim to take some better photos in the future.
Observations for day were:
Individuals catching 2-3 squid each during the evening.
Catches of whiting during the evening, about 5-6 caught, largest being 40cm.
Take care everyone and goodluck with the fishing.

Not bad, not bad at all. Sounds like you had a great day. Well done. All caught on that rainbow jig?

Thank you for all of the replies.
The morning squid were on a natural looking blue back, silver underbody 3.5 Yamashita jig.
The evening squid were caught on the above, brown back, rainbow underbody 3.5 Yamashita jig.
During the evening most of us switched to a more natural darker back, brown and black with a reflective/white underbody and seemed to have more success that the brighter orange/pinks others were using.

Returned for round 2 this-evening.
Sunny clear day, light-moderate winds SSE with a high water clarity.
Within 15 minutes landed two large squids, they didn't even let the squid jig reach the bottom.
A large squad of squid moved in, about 20+ in number. Saw 8-9 landed within 10 minutes.
Added an additional 3 smaller ones to the bag.
Things quieted off for the next hour before I made my leave.
Goodluck everyone with the fishing this week!
