Clifton Springs today

Post by Matty H » Sun Jun 21, 2020 9:07 pm

Beautiful boating day, glassy all day, mild and not too cold. Headed out off Indented Head to start, heaps of flatties, but no bigger fish. Worked back to Portarlington, for a few more flatties and one economy sized Leatherjacket. Few undersized pinkies rounded out the day. Whiting here remain an enigma for me, tried again inside the mussel farms between 3 and 5 metres for zip.
Cooked up the flatties and leathery for rustic fish and chips. Leathery was surprisingly good. The only pic I took was the final bit....

Jackets are always good eating, provided you get one big enough to provide a decent
Piece of fish.

Hiya Rob, didn't have a go for squid specifically, but saw none the whole day. Generally in the mornings they'll have a go at the pilchard baits if they're around, or follow hooked fish up, and I'll sometimes target them opportunistically then. Didn't see anyone else get any either, but did head out deep off Indented Head initially for most of the flatties. Closer in to the mussel farms heaps of dolphins and seals working bait though.

Cheers, Mat.

Nice mate.
The cook up looks great. I got a big LJ the other day as well. Always happy to get a feed of those.
Well done.
Cheers 👍🏻
