Portarlington 22nd oct

Post by Nude up » Thu Oct 22, 2020 6:51 pm

I did have plans to fish queenscliff but I had to do something for the wife by the time I was done it was 10 am. Not wanting to waste the good weather I launched at point Richards and headed down to Clifton springs I drifted around out the front for 2 squid. I headed back up to portarlington and drifted out the front of the harbour for a few flatties lots of small ones but managed around 5 over 30 cm.
I headed over to indented head where the squid were more willing I released around 4 small ones and picked up another 8 reasonable ones in all not a bad day.

Awesome seeing the good mix of species, and some really nice hoods too!

Nah, St Leonards pier has been shocking for the past two weeks.
Squid have moved deeper and they're not hanging around the pier at the moment, slim picking unfortunately.
Boats are struggling too at times, should be better in a few weeks.
Unless you're targeting kgw and the occasional pinky during the night, it's quiet.

Portarlington can be pretty good for soft plastics, pinkies and salmon are around in the harbour at the moment. Trevs too.
St Leonards has had a few nice flathead, but it's been very quiet.

I made a trip to Portarlington on Wednesday 3am through to 8am and was sorely unimpressed. Nary a bite despite using a good quantity of berly, tried drowning pillies, squid and sandworms. All to no success. Shifted three times, both inside and outside the rockwall. I think it will be a while till I make the drive to the west side for a good few weeks.

You should have fished the harbour between the footbridge where it opens up in harbour street much better than the pier.
He who has the most fishing rods WINS ! :ts:
