Mix bag St lennys pier

Post by Kenle » Mon Mar 15, 2021 11:32 am

Saw some great conditions last week and couldn't resist the temptation. Left work early and rushed myself to the pier. I stopped at a servo station for coffee and donut as this powers me through the night but forgot the bait, now recharged and all G'd up I made my way down the pier. Was quite packed for a weekday but I was throwing soft plastic and squid jigs so it didn't matter. Everyone there that night bagged out on makerel and I soon bagged mine on soft plastic and some caught on chicken I found left from other fishos. Conditions was glass like and I could see everything that swims under the water including trevalys, pike, big squid, makerels, Flatheads etc... sight casting at the flatheads I had no trouble tempting them with 2.5" zman slim swims in white on a 1/8 jighead. 2 nice pike soon followed then an unexpected king George on plastic, only at 33cm but was the first for me on plastic. Had a few nice squid grabbed my plastic so threw down a 2.5 squid jig and nailed them, ended up with 3 nice squid. Lost a couple big trevs under the pier as I failed to steer them out but excellent fun on 4lb non the less. Got a small ray on chicken and boy did it run, a brief fight later and on the pier he went, took a happy snap and back into the drink it went. As the early morning approach and my coffee and donut bar almost depleted, I pulled the pin and called it a night. All in all, another successful session had and looking at this week's weather I feel like there's going to be another similar report to be posted for my fellow forum friends to enjoy. Thanks and goodluck :ch: :wt: :wt:

I stand corrected, they are yellow tail scad and not makerel. I've been brain washed overtime from other fishos calling them makerels lol.

Cheers guys, gave everything away to friends and family, only kept 2 flatty for dinner. I can't wait for the big pinkies to appear here at our doorstep, been pretty quiet localy.

Thats a Great Haul mate, well done.
Many people call the yellowtail Scad (yakka) as Mackeral.
But not to be confused with the slimy mackeral (slimies)
they look very different to each other, so not trouble there identifying them.
