St Leonards Calamari 16/9/2021

Post by Andrews » Fri Sep 17, 2021 9:10 pm

Hey everyone,

Quick update on the fishing at St Leonards this-fortnight.
The sessions have been a little slow, with a mix of clarities due to dredging and the squid remaining in low numbers while only slowly really appearing after dark. There has been a few nice KGW after dark, while the gars are spotty and the snapper are yet to really turn up.

Tuesday 14/9/2021 - After work session, 4:50-6:20PM, light E winds, run-in tide, clarity is alright, dredge kicking up clouds of sand.

Photo of the dredge, kicks up the sand on run-in and E winds.

Despite the surface clouds of sand, the water was clean and the white jig was the first pick. Casting close to the pier, and letting the tide push the jig turned into a nice calamari a few casts in.

The minute it hit the pier I caught sight of a second shadow, it backed off but came right at the jig over the weed.

Managed two squid, and saw another single caught around the same size. Nothing huge, they were keeping in smaller numbers of single or doubles, no eggs either.

Fished 16/9/2021, after work 4:50-6:20PM, medium S winds, run-in tide and the clarity was clear, but discoloured, wind kept the sand away.

Took about half an hour before anything showed up, tossed a few casts out in the current deep and felt this real good strike and a few nice thuds.
Turned out it was a smaller model on the single candle.

Squid went quiet again but over that weed I had another pick up the orange jig, Since the water was that bit dirty, went bright + rattle.

Didn't see much else caught but good session, nice getting out before that wind hitting us today and next week.

Cheers,

Andrew

Noice :tu: I'm jealous.
How dirty was it?
Sand cloud isn't as bad as milo chocolate I guess.

Cheers Seb, water the first day pretty murky, maybe 1m vis. The second day with the S wind was really clean, but discoloured.
All round pretty good, has been worse this week!

Thanks Lightningx, always enjoy getting a few squid!
