Indented Heads Salmon Trout on Plastics

Post by Andrews » Mon Nov 01, 2021 5:13 pm

Hey everyone,

With the weather getting warmer and the piers getting busier I've been keen to explore and discover a few hidden gems of spots along the Bellarine.

Spotted this promising spot which is super accessible and has this incredible shallow weed bed (waist deep on high tide) which drops off into 2m of sandy bottoms.

Fished the run in tide, super clean conditions and managed 15 salmon trout in 30 minutes. Hooked into a much bigger salmon 1kg+, which on the jump spat the hook.

The catch and the release.

Cheers Seb!
It was definitely an incredible session, the water was as my friend described 'crisp'.

If there was more weed, it'd be the perfect squid spot. Hope to find the perfect land-based spot soon!

How long is your rod?
Looks like you got those salmon within close proximity and no need to cast super far.

The rod is the Daiwa TD Zero in 7'3 2-5kg, yeah they were quite a few schooling over the sandy bottom. This one
Retrieve that worked best was to cast out the 2.5" paddle tail, let it hit the bottom then a quick retrieve - this one like a few chased it in and then struck once it stopped/sunk.

Thanks Lightningx, yeah hope to try this spot a few more times in the future! Water was so clean.
Cheers
