St leonards to portarlington

Post by Nude up » Thu Jul 14, 2022 8:08 pm

Went fishing with my neighbour we launched at St leonards around 945 tide had just turned we headed to governor reef where we picked up 8 squid 5 bait size. Once the bites stopped we headed to grassy point where we picked up another 6 before it went quite . We decided to try for whiting near the mussel farm I must have caught 20 but only kept 5 over 30 cm. We caught a host of wrasse, toad fish and small bay trout by 230 we decided to give it away. On the way back to St leonards my neighbour spotted a big weed bed so we stopped deployed the electric moved to the centre of the weed bed put it on spot lock 3 casts 3 squid all in the high 30 cm hoods my neighbour got 2 then nothing we were back at the ramp around 3. Looking forward to getting out again tomorrow.

I normally cut my hoods open to clean the inside but I was getting some squid for a mate of mine and he wanted the hoods whole to do stuffed squid. I just push my finger to get the tip of the hood to start to go in then put the hood on the dowel and the slowly stroke it down and hey presto it rolls inside out.

Cheers Dennis we didn't go today when the wind jumped up to 30kph I know it would have been OK at St leonards but we thought if it swings round suddenly we didn't want to damage my neighbours new boat.

Neat idea, I normally just reach in and pull out what ever I can, what little is left of the strands that holds the guts in doesn't worry me, nothing better than stuffing them and cooking in a spaghetti sauce !,
