I've been out West to Manor lakes and East to Pakenham these last few weeks trying to catch a stinking Carp. I don't know why I bother when I can just jump on my bike and head down the creek!

What a great start to the 'season'. Thing was bloody huge, photo doesn't do it justice!

Got a couple of units out of the creek today. The recent rain seems to have stirred them up a bit.

Got out-fished by a Father-Son combo yesterday 3-0.

Hopefully this warmer weather sticks around for a bit.

Not quite what I was after, but I'll take it!

Ended up with two Eels and dropped 1 Carp, so it was a semi-productive day. Worms did the damage.

Eels always active after a big rain.

Got a quick fish in before the rain. Lots of dickie bites before a solid hook-up with a Carp and then an Eel.

According to the forecast, the rain may set in for a few days, so will probably pack the rods away, again :(

Timed my run beautifully, as I only got a little bit wet on the ride home.

Headed down to the local after watching the cricket all day for a quick fish. The session didn't disappoint, as this thing put up a great fight. He fell to corn kernels, which I haven't used for ages.

Was quite proud of myself as the creek as cleared up after a few days of no rain, which makes the water clear and the Carp very spooky.

nice report mate, I've noticed that the carp around your fishing spots are a darker colour than the ones I catch, does that have to do with the water or something?

I guess it does - Carp, like most animals (and people) are products of their environment. The Carp from the creek are often a deep brown and/or gold colour, whereas when I go fishing at Taylor's Lake in the states' west, where the water is like the colour of a muddy farm dam, the Carp are very light in colour, almost silver.

Sidenote: I was down the creek last week scabbing golf balls and I managed to step on a metal spike that seemed to wash up vertically after all the rain we've had. I promptly called 'nurses on call' and was advised to get a tetanus shot, which I did. I also took a week off work...because well, I'm having trouble walking. Needles to say, I haven't been fishing all that much lately and maybe I should consider something sturdier than crocs...

Went up to Taylor's Lake in the state's west armed with two things - corn and worms - and only one thing on my mind - Carp! It didn't really turn out that way, with two tiddlers - a Redfin and a Cod - the only things caught, both on worms. I guess the good news is that my Dad has something to eat for breakfast tomorrow (just to be clear I'm talking about the Redfin - the Cod was promptly released to fight another day).

There used to be a time when Carp feared me. Just an effortless cast of the line with a couple of pieces of corn was enough to have Carp lining up, actively wanting to commit suicide, especially at Taylors. Alas, my Carp slaying aura has deserted me.

I think a return on Chrissy Day is in order. Surely I can't go two sessions without a Carp?

Store worms in local soil
Earthworms are a popular freshwater bait for a variety of species, as they are often washed from banks and shorelines into the water where they are avidly preyed upon by fish. Many freshwater fish, however, are cautious and finicky, and may reject a bait which does not have the exact local taste and smell.
