Over 50 trout in one session

Post by mazman » Tue Jan 21, 2020 1:25 pm

Hey guys,

Headed out on christmas eve for a trout fish and decided to hit a bit of river that is harder to get to avoid the crowds and find some water that hadn't been hammered in the lead up to christmas. The plan paid off very quickly with fish hitting the net at a reasonable pace to begin with and things only got better from there with 27 fish hitting the net in the last two hours of filming. Had to leave a fair bit on the cutting room floor but it leaves an exciting edit of my best trout fishing session to date.

Good sesh Alex. What are your thoughts on fishing a really slow rod? pros and cons?

Cheers, Anth

The biggest advantage is once you hook a fish you don't drop them because the rod absorbs headshakes, jumps etc. and keeps a very consistent pressure on the fish.

The disadvantage is that if you swap over to something that needs a strong hookset, plastics with heavier gauge hooks and similar, the hook up rate is poor and the other thing is that cheaper slow rods are often a bit of a pain to cast accurately. I'm not 100% sure how nories have done it with the rod I use but it is actually really accurate to cast and a responsive blank but still has that slower almost glass like feel when working lures and fighting fish.

Nobody in Victoria would catch that many "wild" trout, except you.

That's what i was wondering.. How casting would go with such a slow rod. Have you used the new Daiwa Infeet?

Briefly cast one, compared to this rod they are still fairly fast, I was considering getting one for stick minnows etc. on bream
