Black rock barracouta in the millions

Last year in may, I fished black rock near bancoora beach for the first time and hooked into the barracouta. There were millions as me, my partner and other local fishermen were there throwing any lure/baited rigs/aluminum foil with hook (joking) and hooking up within a second of the line hitting the water.

Went there today but no luck.

Talked to a bloke who went for a sticky break and he told me his mate were catching a few (shitloads) couta the other day.

My assumption is that every year in may when there's a full moon the barracouta come through.

Anyone else fished there and has caught them one after another? If so what time of the year? Cheers

Figure of speech when I mean "millions"

I hooked a couta in port melb couple weeks ago.
Also I remember when I used to fish for salmons with metal slug around Lorne, couta was often the common unexpected bi catch

At night, around a full moon I've encountered similar schools on the Great Ocean Road, this time of the year. I think its more about getting a little bit lucky with being at the right place at the right time..

Do you guys actually eat them? I landed heaps a couple of years ago in Port fairy river mouth, they are so bony and the flesh was bit smelly than other fish..

They are good bait and I would rather eta couta over salmon.

They always have worms. Big fat white buggers running through the flesh. The smaller ones are usually ok

There was one year where they were everywhere, I remember catching one dangling a little metal lure with this red plastic tag over the water surface and one jumped up and hooked itself.
