Fairhaven salmon.

Post by Matty H » Sun May 17, 2020 3:42 pm

So Saturday’s forecast demanded a plan, I figured I could fit in both surfing and fishing if I played my cards right. But I would have to look beyond Torquay to escape the crowds. Packed board, wetsuit, new fishing outfit, bait, chair, and a few furphys..., and headed west! Stopped at fairhaven, beautiful lines of swell rolling through. Surfed a couple of hours, til tide started coming in, then packed up the board and headed to the very western end of the beach, few fishos already there. Found my spot, rigged up, few chook pellets for burley, and I’m fishing. Getting lots of little bites, losing bait (which is always better than nothing), keeping me interested when about 50 minutes in - Bang!, and I am on, in a big way. Fish fighting very hard in the surf. Careful work through the shore wash and a very healthy approx 3kg sambo. Consider the new outfit christened. Released the fish after some pics. Could have left happy then, but continued for a smaller fish of about a kilo at the end. Gave that one to the old Maltese guy next to me. Reckon it was set to go off as the sun was going down too. The day lived up to its promise!

Nice fish. Lucky you came across a measuring thong, they are hard to come by.

Nice report Matty :gj:

Sounds like a nice trip, bit of surfing then fishing :tu: Great when a plan comes together well

And always good to christen a new outfit (other than a little red dress that is , , , , or is that just me ;-) )

Looks like a decent fish there Bug, but I’d want to know his shoe size.
Of course you know what they say about blokes with big feet?
