Apollo Bay - 31/8 - AM

Post by StarrangerAU » Sat Aug 31, 2019 3:39 pm

Had been keeping a watchful eye on the weather this past week and convinced my self on Thurs/Friday that the forcast for Apollo Bay whilst not perfect, was more fishable than PBB.... so in the spirit of my usual sun-up arrival I put the skates on sometime around 3.30am. Probably a bit early, but a nap at the other end wouldn't go astray.

Didn't look at the temperature before leaving.... The car on the way letting me know it was a bit chilly.with ice.

6.30am and the swell looks manageable, and the beach looks great.

Drowned pillies for two hours, missed a handful of bites, overall though it was very ordinary, so I thought to go round n try the rockwall....aaaand the rockwall is inacessible. Well, actually they are re-doing the boat ramp, and carpark, so getting the vehicle near to the rockwall was not possible. Oh well, may as well try the pier.

This was an exercise in futility, the NNE wind decides to stregthen and blow up right into the face of the pier, despite the challeging conditions I managed a handful of small 20cm salmon before calling it quits at 11am because it was just getting ridiculously unworkable.

4 hours driving, for 4 hours fishing..wasn't the original game plan :-(.

Dear BOM, Get it right ya mugs.

It’s not just you being frustrated with getting the wind wrong mate!
That’s happened to me many many times as well!
Head out thinking it’s going to be nice and turns out being much rougher than predicted! Or wrong wind direction.

Star, you are a Star for just getting out there, I know it's a cliche, but so fitting. Anything that gets us off the couch is a good thing , , , , well except on Bathurst Weekend :-D

A bit of conciliation , , , , at least the "red line" was above the forecast winds.

On May the forth (Yes Starwars day -May the fourth be with you) our Snapper trip out that was to happen after midnight, was not to be on that day because of the forecast high winds. Only for that retched red line to be well below the forecast and we could have gone. Another Weekend missed and the frustration of "What could have been"
