First of all welcome to fish vic
Not very experienced with the area, but I'd say it would be with the winds being NE and wind to your back. As for the best time i am not sure, try searching it up on the blog there is heaps of info on gunners.

Bit late for a reply now, but. I wouldn't fish there this morning, I'd wait until about lunchtime, see if the wind is holding northerly, is she has gone nor west as predicted, I'd fish somewhere else, if she stays straight northerly, then give her a shot from 1 until about 5ish..

Thanks all. I did not go there as the wind looks strong to me.

The wind strength is utterly irrelevent if it's in the right direction..

If it's blowing you want anywhere from North to east. NE being perfect.

If it's single figure knots you can probably spin with a little head wind it just makes it a bit harder.

Hey mate, pretty much as Dougie has said, look for wind direction from north, north, north east, north east, east north east. If any of these wind directions are prevelant, wind strength is irrelevant. Again, as Dougie mentioned, you can fish in other wind directions, but it needs to be 6 knots or less in reality. Check out willyweather, there is a subsection for lots of areas, including gunnamatta beach, which will give you wind strength and direction forecasts, (plus a realtime wind guage taken at the south channel marker). It will give you tide times, and swell heights, (though the swell heights are not very accurate). Look for a swell of less than 1.5 mtrs, preferably less than 1 mtr, swellnet is good for this
