Gunns quick report

Post by Sebb » Mon Jun 08, 2020 9:43 pm

Taking two mates surf fishing, casting metal.
The plan was to stop by Mornington rocks and/or Flinders pier for some squid fishing before heading to gunnamatta beach.
Flinders pier was packed, cars parked all the way up the hill. So straight we went to gunnamatta beach.
A lot of people fishing, walking, surfing. Had to walk a fair bit.
High tide was around 2pm, few fish caught by the bait fishos. 30-45cm in size. Some people at the right spot caught 4-5 fish in average. Quiet on lure.

I caught one 42cm, one small undersized and one wrasse. Yes wrasse on metal. My mate caught one small salmon.

Low tide and sun down didn't produce any fish. The first gutter became shallow and the next gutter was too far.

9ft rod
3000 reel
20lb braid line
Lure : Halco twisty 40gm and 55gm

I know right.
Probably because I fished close to a rocky structure when I caught that wrasse, weedy too.
Not on the bucket list but I guess I'll just write it and tick it. Lol.

Wrasse on lure, never of that. I wonder if spinning for them catches on.

Great report Seb I assumed there must have beef a patch of reef in the gutter you were fishing.

I caught Wrasse off the rocks at Wilsons Prom casting stumpjumpers when I was a kid.

Wrasse are pretty aggressive, I've got heaps while vertical jigging. I could easily see one smashing a slug if you were casting over an area they frequent.
