Has anyone fished warneet pier recently?

You can get the odd kgw, flatty or trevally. 99% of the time you will catch juvenile salmon, tommy rough and toadfish.

Fish there on a good night, 3/4 of the way along the pier near high tide, with a large piece of fresh bait and prey.

I've been smoked twice by something virtually unstoppable, was fun :lol:

I'd use fresh squid and bass yabbies and a size 4 or 6 baitholder hook.

I would use a 2.5 sized squid lure at most. You want to cast out as far as you can then let it sink... generally speaking a 2.5 will sink 4 to 5 metres a second. You want it to get as close to the bottom as you can. Then its just a quick up flick of your rod, for each flick turn your reel once. (2 flicks 2 turns) Reel in the slack let it sink for another couple of seconds and repeat the process. There are different ways you can jig your lure up flick or the low quick drags. The squid will hit your lure as its sinking so you want your lure to be sinking more than it is moving. You flick this attracts the squid then when it sinks it strikes. You can increase your chances by adding a scent to your lure. Good luck

yeah, loads of toads. On the brighter side, one never knows what's at the end of the line -a trevally? tommy? mullet? kgw? or even oz salmon? My wife n I find this a very rewarding place, both for the quiet n the thrill of catching the unexpected. Baits used have ranged from cut pieces of pilchards, peeled prawns and even silverfish. Fish at change of high tide hour or so each way.
