bermie the 7th 1.0.0
The forecast last night was 20 knots dropping off so we had a bbq and a few beers woke around 7 to find 8 knots mad rush put the gear in the boat and head to the ramp.
We headed out to the twelve mile by now its 15 knots northerly but ok we find bait at 50 fathoms dtop jigs down only to find they are all cowanyoung I am reeling in some bait when it goes solid something big has hold then its free again I said I have just had a hit as my mate gets his jig to the surface and a mako between 70 to 90kg grabs a fish right at the boat it turns around and grabs another we were shocked for a minute then a mad scramble grab a shark rig stick on a livie chuck it out but the mako had gone.
All the bait was deep 50 fathoms we worked out if it was tightly packed red on the sounder they were slimies and if they were just spread out green yellow they were cowanyoung. We pulled live baits for a while for no luck the current was running about 3 to 4 knots we needed to cover more water so we decided to pull skip baits. We were at the bottom of the 12 mile when we spotted a free jumping marlin we quickly headed over there pulling the skip baits when bang it hit the skip bait in the l/h rigger I knocked the boat out of gear in great anticipation but nothing we inspected the bait a whack to its head but the leader was rooted a quick change and we circled the gps mark of the hit but no takers.
We headed home about 4pm its a great evening low wind it was a very quick trip home. Tomorrow should be good till early afternoon so we are having an early night
