From near Albany last week.
Just so averaged sized ones. :-D
What gear do you use WestFish to spin for salmon that size? Would the standard 4 - 8 KG 9 foot surf rod with a 4000 sized reel handle them?
You would get them in on that gear.....eventually :)
Would be a good outfit for throwing lures. Nice and light to cast for hours.
I've had them pull 100m of string off a stradic 4500 but I like to fish pretty light.
They do tend to fight pretty fair and don't brick you too often.

What outfit do you use or what do the salmon spinning brigade use out west?

Off the beach/Rocks I use a 8ft 15lb rod with the 4500 stradic/15lb braid to 20lb leader. Run about 3-4kg of drag.
Casts a mile but I tend to only use lures (usually stickbaits) for Salmon.
Get good runs and the drag singing.
5000-6000 is plenty if you want to go bigger, I wouldn't go lighter than 3000 as those bigger boys will smoke you.
