Life jacket while rock fishing

Post by Sebb » Wed Feb 02, 2022 6:02 pm

Just saw this from VFA. What do you all think of this?

Life jackets save lives.

That’s why from March 1, recreational rock fishers will be required to wear a lifejacket at these 10 high risk locations along Victoria’s coast:

1. Cape Bridgewater - rock platform near blowholes carpark
2. Artillery Rocks, west of Lorne
3. Rock platform opposite Sheoak Falls, south of Lorne
4. Sorrento Back Beach rocks
5. Rye back beach number 16
6. Cape Schanck lighthouse rocks
7. Bushrangers Bay rocks, east of Cape Schanck
8. Pyramid Rocks, Phillip Island
9. San Remo - rocks at the southern end of Potters Hill Road
10. Punchbowl Rocks near San Remo

We want everyone to enjoy their rock fishing, have a great day out with family and family and most importantly, get home safe and sound to loved ones.

That’s why we encourage recreational fishers to wear a lifejacket when rock fishing, no matter where they are, because it reduces the risk of drowning in the unfortunate event they end up in the water.

Personally I think it's a good thing I have to wear a life jacket in my boat if I am by myself so I bought a couple of the self inflating yoke type they are so cheap these days $60 if it saves one life we'll worth it.

I wouldn't go rock fishing without one, I also used to wear a pair of old golf shoes, the spikes make sure you don't slip on any surface

I'm all for life jackets cheap insurance that might save your life.
I think life jackets rules need to be looked at in our state. For a boat you must have a type 1 which is the safest but on a jet ski or kayak a type 2 or 3 is accepted even though your more likely to fall overboard on a kayak. Doesn't make sense to me.
