Media Release - Mordialloc Creek Upgrades to Benefit Boaters

MORDIALLOC CREEK UPGRADES TO BENEFIT BOATERS

Boaters will have easier and safer days on the water at Mordialloc Creek with the installation of two new tide boards thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Member for Mordialloc Tim Richardson said the new tide boards at Nepean Highway Bridge, otherwise known as Pompei’s Bridge, will make it easier and safer for boaters to navigate by clearly indicating the creek depth.

The Labor Government has committed to fund the upgrades at six key locations across the state including Mordialloc Creek as part of Government’s Better Boating initiatives.

In addition to installing the tide boards, Better Boating Victoria has started planning for the installation of a new pontoon west of the Nepean Highway Bridge and has commenced scoping locations with the Mordialloc Creek community.

A hydrographic survey of the creek will also be undertaken to facilitate pontoon replacements at the Mordialloc Boat Ramp.

To further improve information for boaters and fishers, Maritime Safety Victoria is also planning to install a webcam at the Mordialloc boat ramp that will be linked to the Boating Vic App, to provide real-time information on ramp conditions, tides and weather.

This project forms part of the Government’s $47.2 million funding package to improve boating across the state. This includes abolishing public boat ramp fees, upgrading boat ramps at six locations and reviewing boating infrastructure in Port Phillip and Western Port.

“Mordialloc Creek is an important and popular spot for recreational boaters to get out on the water and enjoy time with their family.”

“This upgrade is just one of the ways we’re ensuring licence and registration revenue is being injected back into projects that improve boating and fishing facilities.”

Quote attributable to Better Boating Victoria CEO, Gary Gaffney

“Better Boating Victoria is focussed on getting on with the job making boating and fishing easier and more accessible for all Victorians and upgrading Mordialloc Creek is an important part of that.”

“We want to hear how the local community views on Mordialloc Creek to help us plan the next part of this important upgrade.”
