MAJOR UPGRADE OF RYE PIER COMPLETE

The Andrews Labor Government has delivered a significant upgrade at Rye Pier to provide better and safer access for all boaters, anglers and divers.
Minister for Fishing and Boating Jaala Pulford announced in Parliament today that the $500,000 upgrade, which includes an all abilities access ramp to allow everyone to enjoy the water, has now been completed.
The upgrade also provides more casual berths for recreational fishing and diving and improved berthing for larger commercial fishing charter operators through a longer low-landing.
The low-landing was completely rebuilt with new supporting piles and berthing fenders and new corrosion resistance fibre-reinforced mesh for the decking, ensuring it will continue to be an asset for the community for years to come.
The projected was funded through the Better Recreational Facilities initiative and delivers on the government’s commitment to install new casual berths around the Port Phillip.
It comes as the Labor Government gets on with the job of upgrading ramps at six priority locations across Port Phillip and Western Port and reviewing how to improve the way boating facilities are managed and maintained across the bays.
Quotes attributable to the Minister for Fishing and Boating Jaala Pulford
“These improvements will see popular Rye Pier provide better access to the bay for more boaters, anglers and divers for years to come.”
“It’s all part of our Better Recreational Facilities improvement program which is extending lifespans to our piers and boat ramps right across Victoria.”
Quote attributable to Member for Nepean Chris Brayne
“I know locals and visitors alike love coming down to Rye to get out on the water – this upgrade will make it better and easier than ever before.”

Mint weather on a long weekend. Always going to be crowded.

Look at the shopping centres...

I took one look at my local pier in Southern PPB yesterday and took off the opposite direction and flicked plastics along the beach.
I've never seen so many people.
