MIDDLE BRIGHTON PIER REOPENS IN TIME FOR SUMMER

The Andrews Labor Government has completed works to repair and strengthen the Middle Brighton Pier, with the
local attraction reopened to the community in time for summer.

The completion of the pier follows an extensive 10-month works program to strengthen a 340-metre section
between the foreshore and marina entrance and replace deteriorated concrete deck panels.

Funded through the Government's $24 million Piers and Jetties economic stimulus package, the repairs make the
pier safe for everyone to use again, including pedestrians, swimmers, boaters, sailors, and anglers. In addition to
these repairs, maintenance dredging within the harbour to remove a build-up of sand is also complete to prepare
for the peak boating season.

Investigations into longer-term options for the pier and breakwater are in an early stage, led by a reference group
to advise on the project, including members of Parks Victoria, Bayside City Council, and the Department of
Transport.

Other works funded by the Government’s economic stimulus package include nearby St Kilda Pier where
construction will soon begin on a $53 million upgrade that will feature a 450-metre extension from the shore to the
breakwater and a new, safer penguin viewing platform.

A spectacular curved design, the finished pier will showcase a wider and more accessible walkway, tiered seating,
additional toilets, and a new community space near the kiosk.

Across the bay, Altona Pier is also receiving an upgrade with the new design chosen by locals to feature a modern,
angled head that will provide large functional community space, shade for hot summer days, and better access for
walking, fishing, or swimming at Altona Beach.

In regional Victoria, the package is also funding works at Portarlington Pier, that will support local jobs and preserve
the structure for the community and visitors. Access to the Portarlington ferry will be improved with a new covered
walkway to separate pedestrians from commercial vehicle access.

Further information about pier upgrade projects is available at parks.vic.gov.au/projects.

Yep it reopened recently yep they replaced alot of concrete slab,s . Over the last couple of years it was closed for public saftey yet they locked the place up (gates padlocked ) and the people that had yachets had key,s to the gate,s and could walk on the on that same concrete that was not safe for public ? The rockwall is still gated but easy to walk around fished that part saturday now the only place not safe ? is where they removed the rusty rail,s from the bend and just left them on the ground i might be out there but in the last couple of year,s if you cant remove them rail,s and put them in a skip well . The only other work they done was made metal stair,s to the lookout halfway down i have fished brighton pier since i was a kid so at lease 30yrs .That,s me done did catch a 40cm flatty was good to be back there
