DESIGNS FOR REIMAGINED PORT PHILLIP BAY REVEALED
DESIGNS FOR REIMAGINED PORT PHILLIP BAY REVEALED
Friday, 18 October 2024
The Allan Labor Government has released detailed designs and opened the construction tenders for Hampton Pier and Fishermans Jetty, with Port Phillip Bay users one step closer to enjoying two new piers.
The works are funded through the Labor Government’s $18 million critical maintenance and safety works package – making popular piers and jetties safer and stronger across the state.
The new Hampton Pier will be extended into deeper waters and feature a gangway ramp, floating pontoon, and timber decking to preserve the aesthetic appeal of the previous pier.
The revitalised pier will safely support the many activities people love and enjoy at Sandringham Harbour while providing additional space for safer vessel movements in and out of the harbour.
True to its name, Fishermans Jetty is a popular spot for people to fish and a welcoming destination for vessels to berth in the protected Mornington Harbour.
The new jetty will feature locally sourced timber decking, ladders for safe water access and berthing spaces for vessels – ensuring boat operators can continue to safely use the jetty for years to come.
Strong community input from the recently completed Local Port Area Plans have helped shape the designs for both sites.
The construction tender for both projects is currently open with the contract to be awarded in coming months, before construction starts in early 2025.
Further south, plans for the new Dromana Pier are also underway with detailed designs being prepared for release shortly and construction expected to start in 2025.

Since 2018, the Labor Government has invested more than $150 million into jetty repairs and upgrades including several piers around Port Phillip Bay.

“Hampton Pier and Fishermans Jetty are two of the most recognisable spots along Victoria’s bustling coastlines, and rebuilding these sites will ensure the communities continue to be vibrant precincts.”
Quote attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh
"These are investments in the activities which people on the Peninsula love – fishing and getting out on the bay – and this will also support local business."
