REBUILT FISHING JETTY AT LAKE CARTCARRONG

The fishing jetty at Lake Cartcarrong at Winslow, north of Warrnambool, has been rebuilt
thanks to the local Committee of Management and funding from the State Government’s
Recreational Fishing Initiative.
Premier and Member for South West Coast Denis Napthine said the jetty had fallen into
disrepair with large holes in the decking making it dangerous for fishers to use.
“The $25,000 rebuild by local contractors has included new decking along the entire length
of the jetty and the installation of a safety rail,” Dr Napthine said.
“Lake Cartcarrong is a popular fishery, stocked annually with brown trout yearlings grown
at our Snobs Creek hatchery, near Eildon.
“Providing safe access to our freshwater fisheries is vital if anglers are to make the most of
this fish stocking program.
“That is why the Recreational Fishing Initiative, along with other projects funded by fishing
licence fees, is investing in tangible on-ground improvements to facilities throughout
Victoria.”
Dr Napthine said that in its second year, the initiative had funded more than 70 projects
worth more than $2.25 million to improve recreational fishing access and facilities across
Victoria.
“The Initiative is also stocking more trout and native fish, building fishing reefs in bays and
inlets, undertaking more research and strengthening fisheries enforcement and education,”
he said.
“We want to keep this state a top fishing destination for the 721,000 Victorians who fish
annually and the many tourists who travel here seeking a quality fishing experience.”
