A million fishermen taking on average 1kg each a year seems pretty low to be honest. Especially given snapper season brings millions of people out of the woodwork and some people will be bagging out multiple times in a year to make up for the land based guys catching stuff all.

100,000 people participating in a snapper season. 4 kg of whole fish for the entire season =400 tonne
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Rec figures will quickly add up even if the average rec fisho keeps 1kg of fish per year.

IMO I am all for making the best use of the by catch.

Often the bycatch is stuff like, grey rock cod, bulleye gurnard. Skate, wrasse etc. These are all sold on the market. I just wonder what they catch in the bay. I am amazed that people get wound up and just oppose it without finding out the facts. The greater variety of fish sold the better, as it takes pressure off the popular fish.

Are you saying recreational fishers don't have a right to eat fish??? fisheries and most anglers wouldn't agree. What do you eat instead? Every time I eat fish I save the life of a chicken.
You are perfectly entitled to catch and release, but you are not entitled to dictate what others do. It is fisheries job to make the rules not yours.

What’s the point if you’re not going to eat them?

Remember target 1 million.

There is 750,000 plus fishing licences plus kids and seniors who do not need to have a licence.

I saw something elsewhere that also included in addition to your above list.

Australian Salmon, Snook, flathead, gummies, KGW, pike, sargent baker.

I would expect the qty of by catch to be low for each species but most would be worth selling and a lot better for people to be buying imported frozen crap.
