Eden Kingfish

Post by scott__henning » Mon Sep 21, 2015 11:05 am

After looking at the SST's off of eden, I decided to sneak up over the weekend and have a look for some early season kingies.

Water temp was 16 inshore and 18 over the temp break at about the 100m line. Whales were everywhere, and tonnes of bait around. I didn't really have any offshore reef marks, so I had to go off what looked like reefs on navionics. Had a good look around for not much. We did come across a school of albacore smashing the surface, but they weren't interested in what we had to throw at them unfortunately.

Back into Mowarry Point, there were small patches of rat kings that provided a bit of fun on light gear. Plenty of hunting around, and we managed to find what looked like a few bigger kingies cruising midwater, and after dishing up a few microjigs my mate was onto a nice 75cm model.

We didn't manage any more kingies for the day as the wind started to pick up, but it's exciting to know that the kingies seem to be moving with the front edge of warmer water, I'll be keeping a close eye on when that water reaches down our way!
