Is mullet good bait?

Post by tboner » Wed Nov 07, 2012 8:10 pm

I recently caught a few mullet and have been told its great gummy bait, but was wondering if anyone else has had success using iit as bait for other species of fish? I'm going try using it for squid under a float with a prong.

Yes Tboner, Mullet is good Gummy bait and you can use it to catch other species, they make even better live bait for Mulloway.

I'm not sure about using it to catch squid but I can't see why it wouldn't work.

There's no rules in fishing so why not give it a crack.

last year at stony point, i had caught an alright mullet, fillited it for bait, then chucked out 2 small fillets out for something bigger, and i noticed my rod kept pulsing forward, i just thought it was weed, or some type of stingray picking it up and dropping it, it wasn't until i decided to reel it in to see what was going on, untill i saw a big squid that had got himself hooked on my bait, dropped off ofcourse when i tried to lift it :( but i don't see why a full mullet wouldn't work under a float. worth a try anyway if you do not have anything else.

Yes, mullet is good bait for gummies and other type of sharks, and I’ve tried it before as live bait under a float from my boat and it caught me a big hammerhead shark … so it works well under a float.
