I prefer to cast 500 times and when it does happen, feel the squid grab or even better hit the squid jig with their tentacles rather than just wait for the float to go down..
I love the feeling of when they take the jig and you strike to hook them. (You dont always feel them take the jig either). And when they are big you will know about it.. what starts off as a snag ends up being a kraken (not always though)

Everything has it place ofcourse.. I dont fish at night either so the baited jig is certainly not my cup of tea...

Jigs for me for sure.
Unless like it’s been mentioned before I’m in the boat and anchored, then I’ll throw out a baited spike!

I have always had more success jigging vs a float or bait skewer.
