Great session off Frankston

Post by Irishfisherman » Sun Feb 23, 2020 8:48 am

Dad and I headed out at 4pm yesterday from Frankston targeting squid and pinkies. We started at Oliver’s Hill for squid and although the strong SE made the drift awkward we still managed to get consistently large squid (large for Frankston anyway) with up to 30cm hoods. We got 20 in just over an hour, however we did move spots a few times to find new patches. After we had our squid we decided to do a bit of trolling and managed to catch 1 pike and a few pinkies, the standout lure was the rapala scatter rap catching all of the fish. Finally, we headed to Frankston reef to try and get a few pinkies to take home. And it didn’t take long to get the pinkies either, we ended up with 7 over 30cm, the biggest being 34cm which was caught on soft plastic; the rest were caught on fresh squid. My dad also managed to catch a whiting which was a surprise and something not frequently encountered in Frankston. Overall, it was an action packed day with one of our best Frankston sessions to date.
