Exercise had to be done

Post by cobby » Sun Jul 26, 2020 5:23 pm

Couple of coppers that swung past thought a mate and I were nuts last night in the cold, but also intrigued by the whole notion of home designed and made lures stinking out the missus microwave and catching fish. After a quick chat to them it was time to compare the home made unscented 2.5inch paddle tail vs the commercial product, a zman 2.5inch slim swim in bad shad colour. Both rigged on identical gama 1/32oz round 211 jigheads using a super slow roll retrieve with 8lb leader, so as close to direct comparison without a stocked pool and a couple of robots.

Results weren't what you'd initially expect, not a touch on the zman, 15 or so fish landed on the slightly imperfect home made job fishing in the exact same spot (quite literally on some casts landing side by side).

To double check the results had nothing to do with the lower gear ratio on my reel or something else I may have been doing differently I chucked on another of the home made jobs and landed my first of the night on the first cast and continued on for the rest of the night in varying spots as the tidal flow changed direction.

By 3.30am countless amounts of Perch from 3inches long to just on legal were landed between the 2 of us and countless light bites missed. All of then falling victim to the 2 home made plastics

Good effort. That must be satisfying to catch something on homemade lures.

Nicly done, tho you owe the missus a new microwave dont use anything that touched the soft plastic liquid as it can cause some helth issues.

I'd be killed if I thought of using the microwave for that and making the house smell like a sex toy factory

The paddle on it is massive!!!
Does it swim nicely on a slow retrieve.
And is it buoyant like zmans?
Ask luke to make some.bigger ones and test it on those silver slabs

They've got a nice body roll on a super slow retrieve with the smallest tail wiggle, little bit more speed and the tail kicks along just like a small Mullet or similar does. Can't say about buoyancy, but they're durable enough with 1 plastic accounting for roughly 30 fish before it was to ripped up.
They were on fire again tonight
