Welcome Texan... Best bet is to find yourself a Charter operator, google "melbourne fishing boat charters". You might get lucky and catch a prized Snapper or 2.

Good luck

Think Big Charters is a good one for December snapper. Forget the tuna - they are having their summer vacation in the Bahamas during summer.

Howdy Texan.

A Snapper Charter is definitely something you should put on your to do list.

Plenty of other fishing options around too, day trips or longer down the Great Ocean Road to the west or around Lakes Entrance to the east.

Hey mate, great to hear ya paying us a visit.
Just to clear things up a bit, our summer starts on Dec 1st, so yer heading over here into top weather.
December is also right smack in the middle of our snapper season here in Victoria.
Melbournians are fanatcial snapper fishos.
My suggestion would be to head out with one of the local charter operators.
We have several good charter operations catering for snapper & gummy shark fishos at that time of year.
The two I would definitely recommend are 'Big Time' charters run by Gawaine Blake & 'Reel Time' charters run by Matt Cini. Both top blokes & excellent charter skippers with years of experience. You'll have a ball with either one of em.

Here's Gawaine's web site

Classic Fishing charter out of Warneet provides the best lunch out of all the charters I have been on. It is slow cooked marinated beef. Absolute torture, because your mouth starts watering about half an hour after it starts cooking.
